Working 9 to 5

{subject artist: Dolly Parton song: 9 to 5}

So I've been getting a lot of emails/fb posts/texts/smoke signals/telegraph messages asking why I've been around the CRO lately. Well.....here's the low down but honestly guys - it's a fairly boring story so grab a soda and popcorn to help keep you awake. Here it goes - - - -

Working for TD&L
First of all let me just say that my job with TD&L (Talent Development and Learning) is my dream job - travel, training and making good money doing it. My boss is amazing! My coworkers are cool (although that doesn't matter too much since they are based all across the US). Perfect Job! Admittedly it was stressful to learn so much in such a short period of time. I had times when I was sick to my stomach with stress, but I've been there before......... The time I had put together an entire training package and then the server went down and I lost all of it with only two days left until I traveled to Manila to deliver it. Ugh! Or the time the Bristol agents quit taking calls and I (along with Jill) scrambled to get 25 PHLRO agents on the phone with minimal knowledge of Ambassador. So stress was nothing new to me with IHG and I knew I'd work through it - and it was starting to diminish.

The Feeling
Then came the feeling. This nagging feeling that the job was not meant for me. WHAT?!? Leave my dream job?!?! No way!! But the feeling kept getting stronger. I won't go into the details but suffice it to say that I've had MANY experiences throughout my life that have made me trust my feelings and learn to not ignore them. This was one of the top strong "gut feelings" I've ever had in my life. I just knew I had to leave the job. Again - I could give you the details of how that all played out but the bottom line is that I did it and the moment it was solidified......I honestly felt like I had walked out of a haze. It truly felt like I was seeing things different - clearer - with new appreciation and joy. I knew right then and there that I had made the right decision.

Damn Ego!
I knew I still wanted to stay with IHG but upon looking, no jobs (that I was prepared to take) were available except a Brands Class so yes - I'm in training right now. My ego took a hit initially and then I quickly remembered how happy I felt and how I KNEW it was the right choice. I had to let go of ego and not worry about what others would think. Maybe even take a little pride in the fact that I have listened to my gut feeling and followed it even though it was not an easy decision. One thing I keep in mind as well, is that I know something will open up and I'm confident I have the skills to apply and get the job. And again - I'm happy and that's the most important thing to me. I'm laughing and joking again. I enjoy life. And even this training class has been awesome! Justin is a great trainer and Ben is in my class (yeah!! I've missed him!).

So there it is in a nutshell. I had my dream job - left my dream job - and am happy to have had the experience and happy to be where I am right now. Life is good!
