{subject artist: John Denver song: Fly Away}

I know it's a little late but here's the final installment of our Anniversary Trip. Well.....if I can learn Windows Movie Maker in the next day or two, I may splice up some video I took and post that. In the meantime......
By far my favorite part of the trip was the flight through Lake Powell. Stunning scenery! I also took over and flew the plane for quite a while through Glen Canyon and over Lake Powell so that added to the excitement. We cranked up some tunes and just soaked it all in!

(You can click on any of these to enlarge if you wish)

Our map showing that we are heading towards Bullfrog at Lake Powell.

We landed in Page Arizona and went to a nice little authentic mexican joint near the hotel for dinner. In the morning we were faced with the pain of icing on the plane again but thankfully my brilliant hubby realized that a United Healthcare card is good for more than just proof of insurance. Whew! That actually saved us a ton of time!

The previous night we had decided to switch up our course since going to Price was proving to be somewhat of a pain (no transportation to and from the hotel). We followed the Colorado River up through Moab and Arches National Park.

Showing that we are just outside of Grand Junction (KGJT)

From there we diverted to Grand Junction where my brother picked us up and we went out for lunch and visited with him since he had just moved there two days ago. We stayed for a couple of hours then it was back in the plane, up and over the mountains, and into Gunnison Utah where I'm excited to say that Scott's mom went for a ride in the plane! She had been hesitant in the past but she did it and enjoyed it! His dad went as well. After enjoying a delicious dinner at their house and visiting with family, we headed back to SLC to enjoy the rest of our anniversary at home.

I couldn't have asked for a better trip (except when I finally get my dream vacation to Africa. hehe)!

Fly Away_Part II

** I'm having issues with the blog allowing me to add more pics so here is part of our trip. Tomorrow night we will not have internet access so it may be a couple of days for more updates. Until then......

Day 2
We slept in and arrived at the Cedar City airport at around 11am and found that the plane had iced. That is not a good thing! We pushed the plane around so the sun was hitting the back wings and better hitting the top wings. Thankfully it had defrosted by the time we took off.

You can see the ice on the window. We had just turned the plane around so the sun could hit it.

The mountains South/East of Cedar City

Entering Zions National Park

The GPS in the plane tells us we're heading towards Bryce Canyon

My fav shot of Bryce Canyon

We landed at Bryce Canyon Airport, took a shuttle to Ruby's Inn for lunch, then it was back to the airport to head off to Lake Powell.
*since I can't post more pics, I'll add them next week*
After flying around Lake Powell, we landed in Page Arizona and that is where we are spending the night. Hopefully I can post more extensive pics later. Over and out!

Fly Away

{subject artist: John Denver song: Fly Away}

Let me start off by saying that I cannot get the pictures to sit in the correct spot so read the story and you'll see where they should be.........

About two days ago, Scott and I realized we would not be able to spend our exact anniversary day together since I will be working in Atlanta. But like the great husband and friend he is, he came up with a fantastic idea. So this evening we packed up a small suitcase and we’re doing a flying-tour of Southern Utah. Yeah!! What a perfect way to celebrate – combining his love for flying, my love for travel, and of course our love of spending time together.

Since we flew at night, I wasn’t able to get very many pictures or videos but here are a few.

Packing up for the trip.

Just in case we need to pee on the flight! :-)

Heading out to the plane at Airport 2.

When this video first starts, I’m looking out my window at the wing w/strobe light. We are cruising down the runway getting ready to take off. You’ll see us take off and turn to the West and the first really bright group of lights that I zoom on is the Kearns Oval. Next is the Devil’s Store (a.k.a. Walmart) on 6200 South 5600 West. The rest is…well…just us cruising South.

{sorry - couldn't get video to upload in a timely manner. Will make another attempt tonight}}

We climbed to 10,500 feet and cruised along the flight path through Delta, Milford then landed in Cedar City. Trust me when I say that there is next to nothing to look at while up there at night except the stars. I could see small towns off in the distance, and when we flew over mountains it was cool to see the tops of them through the darkness, but otherwise there isn’t much to look at. The highlight for me was when Scott would talk with the tower and then listening to all of the other airline pilots speaking with the tower (apparently tonight there was wicked turbulence at 34,000 feet but 36,000 and 32,000 feet was smooth flying). There was even one pilot that was going mach 8 and the tower told him to reduce his speed to mach 7. If we had flown with him, we could have made it to Cedar City in a FAR shorter time :-)

I’m totally bummed that I didn’t think to get the camera out as we were landing. Argh! The runway looked AWESOME! We landed in Cedar City where we waited for a cab to take us to the hotel. Brrrr! It was so cold!

We checked in at the hotel and apparently had a wheelchair accessible room. Truly
wheelchair accessible.

Right now I'm down in the breakfast bar, resisting yummy Express Cinnamon Rolls
(yes - I'm off sugar again) and waiting for Scott to get the maps plotted out for todays flight. Stay tuned for additional pictures and details about our Anniversary Adventure!
